Two police officers were, on Tuesday night, reportedly shot dead by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers during a stop-and-search operation at Okija Bridge junction in Diobu, Port Harcourt.
The security personnel reportedly attached to the Mile 1 Police Division in Port Harcourt were, according to a source, shot at sight by the kidnappers who fled the scene after killing two.
A resident of the area said the incident has generated panic in the neighbourhood with shops and other business outlets shut on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, a security source who claimed to have reported the matter to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nnamdi Omoni, said the police authority and her senior management teams have moved to the area to ascertain what led to the unwarranted attack.
The security source said the owner of the taxi which the gunmen boarded before the attack submitted himself to the police and was detained overnight.
