Properties Worth Millions Lost as Illegal Refinery Allegedly Owned by a Policeman Explodes in Etche

Properties worth millions of Naira were on Monday night, destroyed in Chokocho, Etche Local Government Area following a fire outbreak from an illegal refinery otherwise called bunkering (kpofire) site in the area. 

A source said the site is located around New heaven Road in Chokocho. It was also said that the kpofire camp is allegedly owned by a police officer from Ogoni who resides in the community. 

City News cannot immediately confirm if there was any fatality but a source confided in our correspondent 

He is said to have fled the community alongside operators of the illegal refinery immediately he heard the authorities were coming to inspect the site and the level of damage.

Monday night’s explosion is coming less than two weeks after a similar incident claimed the lives of 25 persons who were working at another illegal refining site in Rumuekpe, Emohua Local Government Area.
